Season 8 Review in Rocket League (Rising Tides Raise All Boats)

Season 8 Review in Rocket League

(Rising Tides Raise All Boats)

This season was one of assistance, mechanics, and a step back from the ranked grind. Jumping away from being an Extra Modes main, and stepping back into comp 2's and 3's with friends led me to better understand my basics. The best way to learn is to teach. By no means had I mastered the skills needed to be a Champ level or above player no matter who I play with, nor was I able to carry anyone to any rank, but I was able to spiral back to what I had learned to help teach others and reaffirm what I had learned.

I typically play with other teachers and esports players in the country. This season I reproached my teammates, JD, and Savage to see if we could get back into the swing of things and to raise their ranks over the course of the season. For Savage, it marked the first full year of gaming in Rocket League. As for JD, it was his fourth year playing. Savage with about 400 hours in the game and JD with about 1000 hours in the game. As for me, I had about 1200 hours in the game to end the season.

JD for about a year has been right around the Diamond level in 2's and 3's. For Savage, it has been a wild ride for his first year. He went from Bronze 1 to now Diamond II in 2's and Diamond 1 in 3's. In addition to getting some improved ranks with some of my fellow teachers, we had some laughs along the way.

Last week, after months in the making, we were able to send JD a pizza to his house mid gaming session, even though he lived in another state. The session itself was so funny, as we had been working to figure out a plan on how to do it for awhile. So after gaming together for over a year, the doorbell rang, and JD was so preoccupied with the game that he didn't hear the doorbell ringing. Despite all the suspense and the giggles Savage and I had, we did not anticipate during the encounter that JD would not answer the door. We thought with all his tech he would have know mid game what was happening. We made a clip and the overlaid the voicemail from the pizza delivery guy as he called Savage to let them know

2022 JMMS Esports Recap and Reflection Video

2021-2022 JMMS Esports Recap

It was one of the greatest years of teaching and gaming. They say the 3rd time is a charm, and my students and scholar gamers certainly delivered. I tried to put together all the pics and vids I had from this year in one spot so they could be reflected upon. Our year was from August, 2021 to May, 2022. We met each week in person for 2 hours for a typical in-person practice at the school. We played games and scrimmaged another 2 hour on the following days at home using Discord. We were able to use a hybrid approach for the season which gave us flexibility and the ability to use our 3 gaming computers at school more equitably.

We rotated which team got to use the lab each week for their games so they could get the in person feel. We had students play from home on other weeks. Students were to wear their jerseys at home for games or at school for their in-person games. We had 27 players this year from 6th-8th grade. We had our 2 first female gamers. One being the first to go undefeated with her team of three in the season debut of Knockout City, going undefeated in the WRMSEC, the other, starting her second year in esports as an 8th grader focusing on Rocket League and organizational operations.

Overall, the year was a huge success. JMMS Varsity appeared in their first on-stage LAN Rocket League tournament with an audience. With overall success across all three titles, the JMMS Raptors made their mark in a couple leagues. The JMMS Esports made waves in the national Middle School Esports League earning a stunning 2nd place in the Fall 2022 season and a 3rd pace finish in the spring will three different players on the roster. In the Western Regional Middle School Esports conference, the Raptors found themselves as champions in the JV league for the 2nd time in a row and Varsity found themselves in the championship grand finals once more. In the spring, all 3 divisions of JMMS Rocket League teams made it to the championship game, and the Prospects division found JMMS Saffron a winner in game #7 OT in the grand final.

Three year overall record across all games 127-27
